Herbs: Neem, Clove, Peppermint •Goals: Oral Health


Ingredients
- 2 tbsp bentonite clay
- 1 tbsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
- 1 tsp neem powder
- ½ tsp clove powder
- 10 drops peppermint essential oil (food-grade)
- 1 tsp xylitol powder (optional)
- Filtered water (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
- Combine Powders
In a non-metallic bowl, mix bentonite clay, baking soda, neem, clove, and xylitol (if using). - Add Coconut Oil
Slowly stir in melted coconut oil until a paste starts to form. - Add Peppermint Oil
Drop in the essential oil and mix thoroughly. - Adjust Texture
Add a few drops of filtered water at a time until you get your desired toothpaste consistency. - Store
Transfer to a glass jar with a lid. Use a clean spoon or spatula to apply to your toothbrush.
Tips & Variations
- Add activated charcoal (¼ tsp) for whitening—use no more than 2–3 times per week.
- For a child-safe version, reduce peppermint oil to 2–3 drops and skip xylitol.
- Add 1 tsp of calcium carbonate powder for remineralization.
- Avoid metal bowls or utensils—bentonite clay may lose its detoxifying properties when in contact with metal.
Ingredient Notes: Neem Alternatives
If neem powder is unavailable, substitute it with 1 teaspoon of one of the following:
- Miswak powder – For strong antibacterial and plaque-fighting action
- Guava leaf powder – Helps with bleeding gums and freshens breath
- Tulsi (holy basil) powder – Soothes sensitive gums, antimicrobial
- Myrrh powder – Astringent and healing for inflamed gums
